Modishness is an American band that was formed in 1975/76 by guitar player Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards. It is better remembered for their disco songs, including "Dance Dance Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" (1977), "Everybody Dance" (1977), "Le Freak" (1978), "I Want Your Love" (1978), "Good Times" (1979), and "My Forbidden Lover" (1979).

Bernard & Nile experienced previous LaBelle and Ecstacy, Passion & Pain drummer Tony Thompson join the band. & it performed as a trio doing covers at various gigs for for a while. However it required a singer to front the band.

& that singer was Norma Jean Wright, who sang lead in their demotape and in all the songs on their number 1, selftitled, album (1977). Perfect when a sessions ended for their debut album Stylishness began to act in Norma Jean's selftitled debut solo album freed inside 1978. This album contained club hit "Saturday." To help the separate however parallel (to Chic's) solo career for their lead singer Stylishness experienced agreed to sign her to a separate contract & label from either the band. Regrettably a legalities of this contract inside time forced Norma Jean to leave a band in mid (1978). But not prior to participate in the sessions for Swank produced Sister Sledge album We Are Family.

However prior to that, a quick profits of their debut album & a hits "Dance Dance Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" (1977) & "Everybody Dance" (1977), sent Chic out on the road. It performed as a quartet (Nile, Bernard, Tony & Norma Jean) up until February of (1978) but Nile & (Ber)Nard thought that their live performances would improve both in sound and visuals if they added another girl to front the band. Normthe Jean suggested her friend Luci Martaround & she became a member in late winter/early spring of 1978.

At a equivalent instance, Edwards & Rodgers composed, intended, performed, & produced several influential disco & R&B records for both established artists and one-hit wonders, including Sister Sledge, Sheila and B. Devotion, Diana Ross, and Debbie Harry. Chichi too helped introduce the world to the higher-&-energetic immature singer known as Luther Vandross, who sang in many of Smart's albums.

In a Eighties, the b& struggled to obtain airplay & sales and sooner or later disbanded. Rodgers & Edwards singly produced records for the wide kind of creative person. Rodgers was largely responsible the breakthrough profits of Madonna in 1985 with her Like a Virgin album. Thompson & Edwards worked by using a supergroup Power Station on its 1985 hit LP when well as Power Station lead singer Robert Palmer's solo smash Riptide that same month (two of which Edwards produced).

In the early Nineties, Rodgers & Edwards regrouped & worked in recently lesson (Only Chic Mystique & subsequent album Chic-ism, each of which following). Edwards died inside 1996 in Japan, but Chicness continued to tour using fresh musicians. Thompson passed away inside 2003.

Additionally to defining a disco healthy, Smartness helped to inspire more creative person to forge their have healthy. E.g., The Sugarhill Gang used "Good Times" when a basis for their hit ''Rapper's Delight'', which helped launch the Rap/Hip-hop music format as we know today. & a class action Queen got the inspiration for their hit individual "Another One Bites The Dust" from Chic's familiar bass guitar riffs.
